▶︎ don't let go of my hand now darkness has gone and this will be our year took a long time to come "A duel for the last bite, meu coração?"* Jess asked in tease before pushing the dessert plate to the beautiful girl across from her. However tempting they were to her, the last bites were for Carolina, who she had three weeks of pampering to catch up on with. Not that she hadn't gone to Villa Rosales to spend the day every now and again, but it was different from the freedom they had had at school, or that she now felt while traveling together. Her own family was still adjusting to the change in relationship between Jess and her old friend, but she hoped dearly that they fully came around before too long. Because however wistful she had been for Nikola, however much her eye had been distracted by others at Beauxbatons, she'd never truly embarked on a romantic journey with someone. And if Jess had any say in it, their story was only just beginning. "I could have spent the whole day at Flourish and Blotts," she lamented softly as she finished the last of her drink, proud of herself for trying a local brew despite her affinity for wizarding wine, "but it's good to be out with the muggles, don't you think?" It was all part of the experience, seeing both the wizarding and muggle sides of the cities they traveled to. The little pub they'd found for dinner wasn't too far away from the Leaky Cauldron, and had been welcome shelter from the ever-present drizzle. It would be such a shame if the book - her only souvenir so far, besides a lovely scarf from Malkin's - was damaged by a little weather! She stretched her arms over her head, stomach full to bursting from the overindulgence she commonly fell into at the start of these travels, and smiled across at Carolina. "What do you think?" she asked, reaching out to take the other's hand. "Another drink here, or venture off to find someplace new? I think I overheard the fellows by the bar talking about musicians coming in, if we want to wait."*my heart

Carolina thought that she may never get used to such deferential treatment. Granted, she and Jess had always been kind, affectionate friends, this was another level of thoughtful intimacy. She gave a genuine laugh at the other woman’s joke -she could never raise a wand to Jessalyn, it just wastn’t right- pulling the dessert plate her way and swiping up the last of it, humming in delight. “Obrigado.” she said, giving the saucy woman a wink. It had been better than a fair meal and an extra lovely day with her girlfriend on their summer school trip. That word was still new in her mind and on her tongue, the concept itself still had her adjusting but it was getting easier with the passing days. Her family, whom she feared would reject her, were surprisingly supportive, for the most part. Her father had expectations of her life but he was coming around. Everyone else acted as if the news was more interruption to their day than a real shock. Sitting now with Jess she could see that maybe it wasn’t such a surprise after all. Not too long ago she had had a great epiphany about herself: she had been in some estimation of love with Juliette. It was cause for so much of her poor behavior in recent years and she couldn’t help but think that maybe if she had realized sooner, things might have gone differently between them. It was too late for that now though and she was determined to move on with her life and enjoy the happiness being with her longtime friend induced. Carolina had always found her friend, well, sexy. Jess made her laugh when no-one else could, they had fun together and always had. So, maybe it was to no-one's astonishment that they would end up together. “Me too.” she agreed, looking down at her bag and the three books she had settled on at the store. The shops in Diagon Alley were decent and she had enjoyed the day but she found she liked the moldu world even better. “This is nice, it’s a different pace than non-magical communities of Porto or Paris even. I don’t mind it.” Would she ever want to live here? Probably not. But it was pleasant enough to visit and better than it probably would be if she wasn’t experiencing it with Jess. At her girls last question Carolina raised a brow and gave her a smirk. “Would depend on if you are planning to sing tonight with the musicians then, wouldn't it? If yes, then I think we should stay and have a few drinks. What do you think meu amor? Serenade me?"

Jess smiled back at that wink with butterflies in her stomach and looked across in near wonder at her girlfriend. It didn't matter that they'd been together for a handful of months now - she still felt lucky to love and be loved by someone so remarkable, and she hoped that that feeling would never fade. She had met her match in Carolina, hadn't she? And how her darling Lina was so misunderstood around Beauxbatons was practically beyond her. It really just showed the school community's short-sightedness, in Jess's opinion, because if any of those who had issue with her had taken even a little time to get to know her, they would have to change their tune. Carolina was strong-willed and quick-witted, she cared deeply and passionately about things that really mattered and could let go of things that didn't, she was formidable with her wand and on her broom and had worked hard to become so. She was someone to be admired, someone others should be proud to call a friend, though they could not possibly be as proud as Jess was to have her by her side. She fluffed her hair a bit - the rain hadn't gotten it too badly, but she didn't trust that it had dried properly as she wanted it to - as Carolina spoke, nodding her agreement. "I'd love to visit the National Gallery tomorrow, what do you think of sticking to this side for the most part? We could meet up with everybody back in Diagon Alley for dinner?" They had the unique position of belonging to wizarding families that had a foot in each world, and as such Jess always loved taking the time to visit as many communities as possible during these weeks of travel. There was so much to learn from the local wizards and the non-magical folk, especially as it came to food and drink. She loved returning home with recipes charmingly coerced out of chefs or purchased from shopkeeps or - even better - samples of what she had tried and fallen for. Not that her family could incorporate everything into the tourist-facing side of the quinta, but they could experiment for their own dinner table. "That depends on if they can keep up with me," Jess returned with a smirk of her own, loving the challenge mixed in with the sweet request. "But even if they can't, I'll make it work." Surely she and the musicians would have enough common ground to come together for a song or two, and she'd be lying if she said she didn't like the fact that Carolina wanted to be serenaded by her. All of those years of chorus and vocal training were finally paying off, eh?

“Podemos ir aonde você quiser, meu amor.*” she agreed, giving her girlfriend a quick once over. Jess was so hard not to look at, or spoil, or kiss, or hold...She refrained from her latter thoughts as they were in public and they could easily get carried away. But the first two she could do. She could look to her heart’s content and give her long-time friend whatever made her happy. Jess deserved it all. She was the kindest, most accepting person and if going to the Gallery would please her, then Carolina would stay all day. Granted, she would probably enjoy herself as well, it wouldn’t have mattered, either way, she would have gone. “ I’m sure Fitz and Felix will wonder where we’ve gone, but I think we should stop at the room before we meet up with them. I’m pretty sure Addie will be there and I’d like to check-in.” Usually, they may have all three been together, but given she and Jess’s new status, they had opted for a date day. Carolina couldn’t feel bad about it, but she could be a good friend and check-up on their roommate to make sure all was well. “Maybe we could go out dancing after.” If there was a place for dancing around England. She wasn’t convinced they would find something suitable but they could always try. When the conversation turned to staying or going and possibly singing, Lina leaned in a little more. Her eyes inexplicably watching Jessa’s mouth as she spoke, imaging her amazing voice filling the room and her soul. Her once friend now girlfriend’s singing voice had always moved her but now was just, different. Everything about them seemed different now, more intimate, more honest, less reserved. She hoped it never got old, that they always felt excited and intrigued by one another, as they had been since they were children. “I think you don’t even need a band.” she commented, reaching out to lightly trace a finger across the delicate skin of Jessalyn’s wrist. “They’ll never be able to keep pace. Você pode preencher o palco sozinho, porque você é incrível.** ” It was so hard to resist but she managed to pull herself back because, despite her earlier thought of behaving in public, she had come awfully close to burying her hands in Jess’s full, silky locks and kissing her senseless. Carolina was typically more controlled in her responses to people but she was still learning her sexuality and the power it held. Part of her was determined to dominate the feeling, part of her wanted to submit to it. When they were alone and exploring she wouldn’t fight it, but right now, decorum dictated control. She gave a sigh and picked up her drink, it would be a long wait until they were alone again.
Portuguese We can go wherever you please my love.* You could fill the stage all on you’re own, because you’re incredible.**

"Obrigada," Jess said, pert nose crinkling with her smile. "But come on, don't let me steamroll - what's on your wish-list for this trip?" She let out a laugh at mention of their roommates, who she trusted had had a lovely day together even in their absence, but nodded her assent. "Absolutely," she agreed, "and I think Felix has his little side trip tomorrow, but maybe Addie or Niko would want to join us. I can share you, if I have to." The tease left her voice as she went on in excitement, "Oh we must go dancing! Niko will know where to go, or at least which part of town to look in - there's a Pandemonium hidden somewhere here, for the life of me I can't remember exactly how to find it."She could practically feel the trace of Lina's caramel eyes on her as they went back-and-forth about her joining the musicians, and when she did touch her, the lightest fairy-like touch, it raised arrepios* on her bare arms. To love and be loved, and to want and be wanted...Jess's eyes wandered from her wrist to her partner's eyes, letting them linger on the heat within them as the smallest smile played on her lips. She'd learned to savor these moments from the beauty; however fun it was to rush into Lina's room with her, to lose herself in a frenzy, there was something to this. To knowing that, were they in another space, that things would happen. To knowing that they would be somewhere private later, and that the moments between them would only build on each other until then. "Tenha cuidado, doçura, você vai me dar uma cabecinha,**" she whispered, both amused and empathetic as her girlfriend removed her hand and sighed. There's plenty of night left, meu coração. "Não vá a lugar nenhum."The young woman rose and returned to the bar, putting in another round of drinks for them and taking the moment to ask the men she'd overheard earlier about the musicians. Assured that she wouldn't be laughed out of the place for asking them to join in, Jess swept back to her date, drinks to the table. She grabbed her chair and pulled it around to Lina's side, scooting in close as she settled in. "Madame Cariveau must never know," she said solemnly, the image of her French vocal coach's eyes practically bugging out of her head in mind as she raised her glass in one hand, the other resting on her girlfriend's leg. "To imbibe and sing is to become the reine des cons."****goosebumps **be careful, sweetness, you're going to give me a big head. don't go anywhere ***queen of idiots

Jess’s animated face kept her attention like nothing else could these days and staring at her as she spoke always made Lina smile stupidly. “I just want to be with you!” she insisted with a laugh, caught up in the conversation, and feeding off of her fellow traveler’s infectious energy. “Alright, dancing is what I want to do then. Dancing with you. We’ll find Niko when we get back and demand he tell us where the club is, I bet Addie will be excited to go. Maybe Felix will still come along, maybe he’ll bring Sylvia.” Carolina had never met the English woman, and typically didn’t take to too many people, but given the grief their friend had been through with Juli -did everyone have a thing with the half-Veela?- she thought she would like anyone he brought around if only to make it easier on him. If he did come to Pandemonium with them, and if he did bring someone along, no matter who, she promised herself she would be as welcoming as if the girl was in her own home.
Carolina sipped happily at her drink as talk circled back around to them and she was all too willing to be wrapped up in her girlfriend again. She bit her lip on a smile as the Portuguese slid off Jessalyn’s tongue in tease and wanted nothing more than to show her the talents of her own tongue…later. Jess broke the spell between as she rose and left the table and Carolina sat back with a huff, not in the least bit annoyed at how easily Jess could work her up. “Eu não estou indo a lugar nenhum.*” She said to herself, resting her arms across the table and watching unabashedly as Jess stood at the bar, ordering more drinks and chatting with the barkeep. How had they spent so long being friends and she had never noticed the alluring curve of her hip...Jessa turned towards her and Lina’s eyes snapped up to her face as she made her way back to their table, a light blush high on her cheeks. It’s the weather, England is so humid. “She won’t hear it from me.” Carolina promised with a toast of her glass, more than pleased that Jess had come around to her side of the table. Even more so when the other woman rested her hand so innocently on her thigh. “Você pode ser minha rainha.**” She said in a low voice meant for her girlfriend alone. With a saucy smile, she placed her own hand on Jess’s leg and tugged her closer until they were as near as politeness would allow. Until the musicians arrived she had the beauty to herself. Ducking in she took a sniff of the glorious locks of her girlfriend, smiling and closing her eyes at the scent. “Eu quero beijar você.***”
I am not going anywhere.* You can be my queen.** I want to kiss you.***

Jess broke into a grin at her girlfriend's speech, her heart burning in her chest at the sweetness so willingly given to her. "I just want to be with you!" As much as she'd felt valued and seen by her friends before - minus dear Niko's obliviousness to her prior torch holding - for it to be enough for Lina to just spend time together was something else entirely. She'd been envious of others on these trips as they traveled with someone they loved, and was all kinds of proud to count herself among them now. Navigating through these foreign cities, seeing the sights and stretching the hours over food and drink not properly found elsewhere, it really was all the more special when she could count on experiencing it with Carolina by her side. But, she reminded herself, we've got to get out there too! So she was glad that Lina was on board for the plan to go dancing, grinning broadly as she brought up the others in their pack. "Perfeita - he should, we need some competition on the dance floor. We'll tell him tonight, hmm?"The look in Carolina's eye shifted, amplifying in feeling as she focused in on her, and Jess adored the feeling of the other's eye on her as she went to replace their drinks. Recognition of it not being all in her head was found when she returned to find her girlfriend's cheeks delightfully pink, her promises coming quickly, and the hand on her bare leg pulling her in. Jess met the other's eye as she spoke, finding the thought of being Carolina's queen a rather remarkable one she'd do well to remember, and felt her breath come in sharp as Lina moved in. "Então é isso que você deve fazer,"* she quickly and quietly returned, earlier thoughts of restraint thrown to the wayside by her girlfriend's words. She could hardly deny the beauty, could she? She had a heart! Jess felt her neck grow warm under her new scarf and tilted Lina's chin towards her; the girl's eyes were closed, her enviable lashes casting the lightest shadows onto her cheeks, and her perfect lips just waited for hers... *then that's what you should do

Kissing Jess was unlike kissing anyone she had ever kissed before, probably unlike kissing anyone in the whole world, maybe the universe even. The conservative part of her, the part her family had nurtured, shied away from embracing her amore in this way, in this public place. The strong, confident, in love part of her promptly kicked the other off a cliff and caught Jess’s lips with hers. Instinctively and with pleasure, Carolina buried one hand in her girlfriend’s thick hair, the fingers of her other slide along the scarf, teasing the skin of the other woman’s neck. Inside her, she was bursting with emotion and feeling and behind her closed eyes, she saw the two of them together...The kiss went on until they were both satisfied and when they parted Carolina held a smile to her face. “Hmmm, I cannot wait to get back to the room tonight.” she said secretively, a blush creeping up her cheeks. Working hard not to pay too much attention to the other patrons in the English tavern, she glanced around hoping the musicians showed up soon. She was looking forward to hearing her woman sing, it was the most beautiful sound, but she was more looking forward to getting in some alone time with Jess. Even before they got around to that though she had promised that they would go dancing, with their friends no less. There was so much to get through before they could curl up together and relax, but hopefully, it would all be fun. “I say as soon as we leave here, we find Nikola and make our plan for the evening.” Carolina loved few things more than a well put together plan. And honestly, with their friend group, it was nearly essential if they ever wanted to get anything done. “Eve will need to be found, I’m sure. We can’t leave her behind. Oh, we’ll need to change as well.” Lina glanced over with a saucy glint in her eye, peering at Jess over the rim of her cup. “I’m thinking something shiny and short.”

As with all aspects of life Carolina chose to devote herself to, Jessa had the exquisite pleasure of the woman's entire attention in moments like these. Her girlfriend did nothing of importance in half-measure, after all, and their unspoken reticent agreement to wait was broken, and broken well, and broken gladly. Jess had not returned to the table to sit beside her love only to discourage such an advance, after all. The softness of Lina's lips and the taste of sugar on her tongue, the strength of the fingers tangled in her hair and of those slipping under her scarf to tease color to her neck... She would highly recommend falling in love with your best friend, should anyone ask, or not, despite the initial wonderings of could they feel the same? Never before had her entire being been brought to fiery life by the meeting of eyes she knew, slowly and then all at once seeing the burning light of change in them as they recognized the change in hers. Their long closeness gave her comfort to simply be herself without much worry - Lina knew when she was being sarcastic and could shoot back in kind, both giggling before long - she could cut out her (admittedly annoying) proclivity to name-drop due to the steady assurance that, wherever they were together, she did simply belong - she could be at ease in knowing that their established trust was extending into new, thrilling, avenues. They drew apart, but not by far. Jess's hands had slinked down the curves of Lina's back and beyond, and now drew around, resting on her thighs as she pressed in to lay chaste kiss to the other's lips at the promise of more. "Me too. Sou louca por ti,"* she whispered, heaving back with a smile to take up her drink. She nodded along, smirking in amusement, as her Lina put together the itinerary for their next while. Corralling their party was an ordeal of epic proportions, especially when they were traveling, but if anyone could do it - they could. With Lina's planning. "Yes!" she swallowed quickly to burst at the last, laughing at her own eagerness but not stopping because of it. "What about that little dress with the gold? Ends right about..." She drew her nails lightly up the outside of her thigh, high, and would have suggested they get on their new plan had the musicians not arrived. Jess grinned in excitement, quickly adjusting her hair and skirt as she stood. "Wish me luck, meu coração," she bid adieu, prepared to plead her case to the fellows. Could they let her join, for just one song, for the sake of young love? Could they play something familiar and sweet that she could make her own, just for a few minutes? Thankfully they were up for the fun, and after an impatient wait in the wings, Jess was invited in. While the eyes of the diners were on her - some, anyway, many too deep into their meal to care - she found the ones that made her heart soar as she began, slipping into their native tongue at the chorus, unsure if it was the language or something else that was turning more heads... *I'm crazy about you
