Back Story:
Being stuck in the middle her whole life was her greatest blessing and her darkest curse, and both for the same reason: her loved ones didn’t seem to really see her. They didn’t notice when she did anything good or bad, they didn’t really notice anything at all -she broke a vase once playing on her broom in the manor and her mother barely listened to her admittance, she instead insisted the house must have had a poltergeist. As long as she didn’t embarrass the family too much, -there was an understanding among their kind that Flo was slightly strange, to them at least- she was free to be invisible, and yet still available to assist whenever needed. Early childhood was made difficult because of this, they required her around when it was convenient, and she was in the way when it wasn’t. By the time she was old enough to remember anything, there was Josie and Nel quickly followed, and from then on she was a little helper to her younger siblings when needed but otherwise, she was left to her own devices. Back then all she wanted was the attention of her family and she tried her best to garner it and she always came up short of her own expectations. It made for a bit of a disappointing childhood.
Going away to Hogwarts seemed like her chance to make something of herself, her opportunity to be seen. Not only by her fellow Flint’s but by the school at large and hopefully beyond the stone walls. But there, she fell short as well. She managed to make it into Slytherin, something she was dead terrified about. Flo was convinced she would end up in Hufflepuff -something that would have suited her just fine, but no doubt would have devastated her family- or that even worse, she would be sorted into Gryffindor -they would have written her off for sure. That’s about all she managed to get right, though. Florence had made it into the snake's den but she didn’t seem to belong there at all. She wasn’t exceptionally powerful -she got knocked arse over elbows more times than she could count in Defense-, or clever-she managed to pass all of her classes but nothing to write home about and no solid ability to outwit another consistently-, or even funny, which would have been something at least-well that was debatable, some people thought she was hilarious. In fact, she wasn’t… still like anyone else in her house. She wasn’t posed or remote. She moved.
More than just physically, her soul moved with energy and life. The people around her seemed still and cold in comparison and quite frankly very mean to her sometimes. The first years were hard -she would have preferred to be ignored by her housemates some days- but all the previous years chasing after her brothers on toy brooms and wanting to play with them paid off, in the third, she gathered her courage and went out for the Quidditch team, and to everyone's surprise, including her own, she was pretty good. Enough to make the team and be a real asset! She was faster and slicker than the rest and once the Quaffle touched her fingers she was near untouchable. It gave her a new purpose and direction and everything else seemed to tick into place after that. She stopped wanting so much, so much attention, so much recognition, so much…love. She loved herself, she gave herself the recognition she deserved, and she paid scrupulous attention to her person. She grew comfortable with that, in herself, able to see that the approval needed to come from within her, not around her. She grew from the knowledge that Hogwarts was temporary, she didn’t always have to fit into the box it presented. She could go from this place and be whatever she wanted, she could be herself. Florence wanted nothing more than to break free.
At school, she had to…tone down certain aspects of her personality while in her shared living quarters as well as around the school; she couldn’t be seen exhibiting certain behaviors in public. It was enough to make her feel tired at the end of every day. But Flo found if she looked the part and stayed out of the way she kept out of trouble for the most part. She was always on trend and polished and looked well enough in line with the other girls, her mother made sure of that. In fact, despite being in the background for most her life, her family did try, she knew that -her ill-fated betrothal to Ethan was a testament to that, though she had gained a true friend from it, it was an abysmal idea, they were children for Merlin’s sake! They tried to do what was right for her but it was what was right by them and Flo was just…not that girl. She was never going to be that perfect pureblood daughter. Which made her talent for making friends with her housemates slim, she just didn’t think like them, and only scraped by with a handful of good friends among the snakes. She did manage to find like-minded friends enough in the other houses though and that was a reprieve to her spirit, to be able, even for a short time, to let her laugh be loud and smile large. So, she subsided on Quidditch and friendship and the hope of a brighter future until it was her time to strike out into the world and make it what she wanted it to be.

Wand Backstory: "You will notice that my wand is not of the traditional English make and model, so to speak. This is because my wand is not from Ollivander’s. Unfortunately, the little detail of my start at Hogwarts somehow got lost in a last-minute family ‘vacation’ to the Americas. So, the wand that chose me was found at Johannes Jonker's. Overall, despite my initial horror at being the only person in the family for generations to have /not purchased their wand from Ollivanders -go figure- it turned out to be an amazing experience and something I learned to love as unique to me.” -F
