Back Story: Alice Fortescue was born to two lovely, but older, parents. Florean and Edith came from a long line of purebloods, both of them having been in Gryffindor during their own years at school. She grew up in a loving home, with parents who did their best to encourage her imagination. Her favorite past time was playing house, with her father attending all if her tea parties and helping her raise her dolls. From a young age she was always taking care of her parents, the cat, the neighborhood kids. She was loyal to her family and friends, and once punched an older muggle boy right in the nose when her made a girl her age cry. Her mother was not pleased, but her father found the entire incident hilarious. She spent her days running around Diagon Alley with other children while her parents worked, and her nights at home in Yorkshire cuddled in bed with her favorite books and stuffed animals.
Things changed, when Mary came into their lives. The daughter of Edith's brother, Alice adored Mary and her parents. Her Uncle Neil always made her laugh, and Aunt Audra made the best cookies. It was hard to fully understand what death meant when they passed, but what she did know was that it was her job to look after Mary. She brought her cousin all around Yorkshire with her, and when the kids were cruel to her Alice made sure to deal with them. They had many adventures around Diagon Alley, or in the second hand bookshop next door to the ice cream. Florean taught them to make the ice cream, both the muggle way and the magical way, and Alice spent her days happy and looking forward to Hogwarts.
Her parents told her all about Hogwarts., and the things they had gotten into while at school. She read books about the school, learning as much as she could about the houses and the founders. She was positive that she would be sorted into Hufflepuff, and proudly told anyone who would listen on the train that she was sure she'd be wearing black and yellow scarves for the rest of her life. It came as a great shock to her when the Sorting Hat quickly decided that she belonged in Gryffindor. Sure, it was where both her parents had spent their 7 years of school, but she hardly considered herself as brave as them. They'd taken the family ice cream store from a place not often frequented to one of the most popular spots during the summer. To Alice, they could do anything - but she wasn't brave like them. She was never good at defending herself, just others. It took her some time to open up, never having been the one to introduce herself first. But once she opened up, she absolutely flourished. She loved her classes, excelling in Charms and DADA. Other classes she loves, but required more thought and studying.
It was in her fifth year, an already stressful year, her grades in Herbology began to fall. And after she asked her Head of House, Frank Longbottom was assigned as her tutor. Her first lesson with him was something she would always remember, because it was the start of something bigger than she realized. She'd always known of Frank, but she'd never spoken to him much over the years. until they'd been assigned together this year as Prefects. He was handsome, a Quidditch player, and from the kind of family that Alice knew enough to know the bloodline, but she often wondered if he was one of those type suffering a betrothal. He surprised her by asking for her help in Charms, and fifth year became they year they started to study together and teach each other.
Fifth year was also the year she met Daniel, and oh how struck she was by him. She'd been smitten from the beginning, and it was wonderful to spend so much time with him that year. In Easter, things between them ended, and admittedly Alice was a little hurt behind the reasons. But it was for the best, and she found herself spending more time with Frank to make up for the time she hadn't spent with him before. They exchanged letters, and that summer was the first time she found herself visiting her new friend at his home. To say she was intimidated by it was an understatement, but she knew Frank well enough by that point to know that he had no cares about the money he had.
Their friendship blossomed, and they spent time together that summer when they could. Back at school, she discovered she didn't really care about other boys like she did about Frank, but she was sure there was nothing she could do it about it. That didn't stop her heart though, and by the end of sixth year she was head over heels for him. Telling him though? No, she could never. Still, when her father let her take time away from the shop the summer after sixth year to spend it at Longbottom Hall. Well the words came out, and they were reciprocated. It was better than any fairytale Alice had ever read. It was wonderful, being with her new boyfriend in his home, and Alice was sad when she had to leave. Still, she had something to tell anyone who would listen at the shop when they came to visit.
Seventh year came quickly, and with seventh year came new responsibilities. Being appointed Head Girl was a huge surprise, but she knew that she was up to the task. What was even better was her new boyfriend being Head Boy. Not every secret meeting between them in their lounge was professional that year, as hormones can do things to you, but Alice felt that things that year went perfectly for her. Leaving Hogwarts for the last time was hard, but knowing that she was going into the world to change it was worth it. The Ministry had decided to allow a select group of graduates participate in an accelerated Auror training program, to account for the ever growing evil lurking outside their door. Alice and Frank were both selected, and also approached by Dumbledore.
Alice knew she couldn't turn either job down, but accepting the both would mean she hardly had time for herself, let alone a relationship with her boyfriend. That problem was solved though, by her wonderful boyfriend gifting her a cottage down the street from Longbottom Hall. Living there together with him was wonderful, knowing that every night they had an agreement to be there for each other. It was one hell of a year, she missed so much about her sister's life and her family, but it was worth it. What was even grander, was the beautiful proposal Frank surprised her with after they had both graduated the Auror program. They married in September of 1978.
