Back Story:
Phoebe Adkins - only child and perfect princess. At least in the very beginning. Being born to two older parents, she was doted on and loved, but they did their best not to make sure she was spoiled. It helped that there were several other children in the neighborhood, some that were here age. And so growing up, her lack of siblings didn't cause her to be stuck up and selfish. She quickly made friends with a lot of the neighborhood kids, participating in backyard camp outs and tree climbing. She was undoubtedly a tomboy, preferring her jeans and t-shirts to the frilly dresses her mother tried to get her to wear. She came home with her fair share of scraped knees and bruises.
And that was how life continued for a while. She did well in school, finding a joy in science, but with her father being a lawyer it always held a special place in her heart. She knew from a young age that she wanted to follow in his footsteps. So she did her best to do well in school, and to learn everything she could from him. As she got older, she stopped climbing trees as much as she had as a child, and instead spent some of her summers inside with her books. Of course, she still played with her friends, particularly the Bones children. They had all grown up together, even if they all did go off to some strange boarding school.
It was the summer of her fifteenth birthday that things really started to change. She had started to move away from dressing like a tom boy to wearing dresses and skirts, discovering the fun that makeup could be. That and puberty had hit, and she was suddenly getting flirted with and chased around by boys at school. It was fun, she enjoyed flirting with them. But she had to admit, when Edgar Bones came back from his boarding school - she enjoyed the view. And by the end of that summer, they had spent countless nights together falling in love.
She wasn't sure how things would end when he had to return to school, but after conversation they decided to try and keep things going. His mother helped them communicate, and she had to admit she had a sweet spot for Imogen Bones. So countless letters were written and shared, and while the boys at school still were fun to look at, she knew her heart belonged to Edgar.
Days turned into months, and months turned into years. They both graduated school, and Phoebe was accepted into University. Edgar had decided to go into the police academy, and while she had her concerns, she thought it admirable. And when he proposed that they move in together? She didn't even hesitate to say yes. It caused issues in both families, but really why did it matter that they weren't married? They had been dating for years, they were so in love. It seemed logical that they spend their time together now. Besides, it was too early for them to have kids. They both had their studies to finish, and that was what they were going to do.
Of course, when they made the decision to get Sadie as she was getting close to the end of her schooling, she had to admit the thoughts of getting married and starting a family were weighing on her mind. And when Edgar came to her and told her they needed to talk, she was preparing herself for a beautiful engagement speech and planning a wedding.
Not for him to take her world and crush it.
They had been together for years now, and he was suddenly telling her secrets that he had been keeping. And not simple secrets, no, big ones. Secrets about a world full of magic, about a school that he had gone to that had taught him spells. That he was a wizard. A lot of information for her to take in, and she'd barely had a chance to understand it before he dropped the biggest bombshell. Of a magical world at war, where people like her that didn't know about magic were in danger. And of some sort of force he wanted to join, to be a solider in that war.
She wanted to be rational, but everything he had told her was so irrational. Hard to comprehend and all of her dreams were flying out of the window at this point. And so heated arguments followed, and she packed a bag and went to her parents house that night. She couldn't tell them the truth, no, that would have been bad. But they were there for her, and let her stay as long as she needed.
She concerned ending the relationship more than once. This kind of thing wasn't something she could simply nod and accept. But she knew she loved Edgar, and she didn't think she could live her life without him. And if that meant accepting this whole new world, and accepting that he wanted to fight to protect her and others like her, she would have to do it. So after time she returned to their flat, giving him yet another earful before she laid down some rules. He could live his life, but she wasn't going to hold back on hers.
And so it wasn't long after they were married, and in the following years had three wonderful children that she couldn't imagine life without. She put her dreams of going to law school on hold for her kids, although she did have to finally tell Edgar that there would be no more kids until after his war was finished. Edgar showed his kids magic - Phoebe insisted that there be no more secrets regarding that - and she had to admit the little things he did to help around the house were quite fascinating.
