"The Sylvia Davies? I must be dreaming! Where's my pen, move aside sir - I must have her autograph!"Felix grinned and hopped off of the train platform, landing lightly on the pavement and jogging towards his friend. He was a lucky one, he really was, to have had this day trip inked into his personal itinerary for this season's travels. Since he and Sylvia had met in a dance competition years ago, they'd seen each other in the circuit every once and a while, forming a bond first on the dance floor and then in the small anything-but-quiet moments that followed. How fantastic was it to find another person out in the world with magic not only in her feet, but in her blood? (He hadn't always been the most discreet, was he supposed to lie when she found him healing his ankle after a rough and disappointing day?) It wasn't often that they spoke of school, preferring to compare notes on their competitors or debate the fairness of the judges's assessments of them and their enemies, but he enjoyed their sporadic letters and meetings. And so he'd had to reach out before this summer trip through her home territory, happy to spend some time on the train viewing the English countryside if it meant reuniting with a friend. He greeted the little beauty with a kiss to her cheeks, unsure what the day would hold but up for anything she had in store. He did hope they'd get a chance to show off what they'd learned since they'd last seen each other, but whether that was at her home or in the town square, didn't matter.

Dangerously, Sylvia leaned over the train platform, staring as far as her eyes would let her down the tracks, waiting impatiently for her friend. She didn’t get to see Felix as often as she wished, and his visit to her homeland was a golden opportunity neither could pass up. He had been excited to visit, and she had been excited to show him her world, so since his letter a month ago telling of his visit, she had grown in impatience by the day. It had already been such an excellent summer -apart from her breakup with Tommy, which was definitely not excellent-, full of dance, friends, and laughter, and the Frenchmen coming to visit could only make it better. An ear-splitting horn sounded off, and Sylvie clapped her hands together as the vision of a train came around the bend as if she had summoned it with her will alone. The Ravenclaw adjusted her skirt as the train brakes pulled the machine to a stop, and people spilled out, Felix amongst them. His greeting earned him a sassy look but also made her grin so hard she thought her face was in fear of cracking and when he dipped in for kisses on her cheeks, she began to laugh. “You are so French,” she said, echoing something she had said a hundred times over. It was their little joke, and she had missed using it. She had missed him, someone who shared her passion for dance like no-one else did at Hogwarts, someone who understood it unlike Tommy. “We better get cracking, we only have the one day to fit in months of catching up. I hope you like Yorkshire. Did you know it’s the largest county in all of the United Kingdom, and one of the oldest too? I want to take you to all my favorite historical places. Well, some at least. Oh Felix, i've missed you."

"And you are so English, mon petit oiseau,*" he returned with a grin of his own, glad to have already made the girl laugh. Felix's grin turned into one of bemusement as Sylvia's words poured out of her so quickly - was that brother of hers out of the house? had she not seen friends so far this summer? or was she truly so excited to see him? - and he nodded along seriously. He hadn't much looked into Yorkshire before getting on the train, if he was being honest - he'd traveled within England with his parents before, but their shows and sight-seeing had kept them in and around London, primarily. Places of history didn't especially entertain them, unless they could be brought back to life with colorful stories, but he would be a good sport for his friend. "You're right, we really must get moving," he teased, taking her by the hand and giving her a quick spin. She had the perfect skirt on for it, he couldn't quite resist, and he put his arm around her shoulders affectionately as they headed out of the station. While traveling in and of itself was not his favorite endeavor, he was interested to see Sylvia outside of competition, and in her hometown. They were people who were always on the move, so jumping from place-to-place today seemed just right for him - but without the pressure of performing, they could get to know each other differently. Lord knew that he could use someone else's perspective on everything that had happened with his ex this year, and who knew, maybe she could use an outsider's opinion on something too! "Every place we visit must be accompanied by a story, how about that?" Felix suggested with a grin. "About the place itself, or from our last year. Fair? Where are we off to first?"*my little bird

Hearing the common jest again was like music to her ears and she thought she would probably never like being called English as much as she liked hearing it from Felix. Sometimes she wished they got to see each other more, but then maybe they wouldn’t have such a great time when they did meet up. Or maybe they would, she thought as he took her by the hand and gave her a quick twirl. She was sorely lacking a dance partner! “Alright then, come on you.” Sylvia said as they made their way into town, Felix’s arm around her shoulders and hers around his waist. It was like this when they met up, they just sort of picked up their friendship, only this time they didn't have a dance competition taking up their time and attention. Which meant more time for chatting, which they didn't always have enough time for. “Such a good idea! We’re going to start at St. Helen’s Square, in the eighteenth century the square was smaller and was actually called St. Helen's graveyard. It lay's in front of the church of the same name which was partially torn down at one point in history and then refurbished and put back in to use. It's a historically listed building now. Fun fact, that part of town boast some very haunted places. Now your turn sir.” Honestly, she didn’t want to say too much about the last year, as the best and worse part of it involved her ex-boyfriend and really that's all that came to mind at the moment. She wasn't keen on discussing her love life failure. Besides, she was more interested in knowing what her French friend had been up to, truly. His life was likely to be far more interesting than her own in any case. She spent most of her time in the books, he spent his on a dance floor. Felix got to take dance classes along with his regular lessons at school, lucky lad, Sylvia had no such reprieve and instead studied, a lot. Somehow she doubted he wanted to hear about how many different potions she had memorized. “Tell me something about your last year.”

"Are there really ghosts around? Tell me, truly," Felix implored, "or do the moldu just like the stories?" As he looked up at the old stone of the square, now knowing that they walked upon what used to be a graveyard, he could see where the tales would come from. Nothing like a little scary story to entertain the kids, hmm? "Have I ever told you about the trouble with 'ghosts' I used to get into? Don't think less of me, please, I was an incorrigible child, not the saint you see before you today," he continued quickly, smiling all the while. His voice quieted as he went on, for while Sylvia's home was in the wizarding community, non-magical folk were all around them here. "Before I knew ghosts were actually real, I'd blame my accidental magic on them. Scared my nannies half to death, poor things. Have had a fondness for ghosts ever since, though," he reflected, smile softening at the edges. "How did your magic manifest? I don't think I've ever heard the stories of wee little Sylvie!"He didn't blame her for speaking of their location first - he'd asked for a proper tour, and his companion was giving him one - but Felix did hope to hear more of her life over the course of their day. He didn't mind sharing first, though. "It's been...an odd year," Felix admitted with a wry look her way. "A learning year, romantically. Things ended with me and Letty last summer," he recapped briskly, "but we were back together, in a way, not long into the fall. She'd sort of been with the guy I've told you about, Espen, but they fought and she came my way again. Didn't last, they're a proper item now," he said with as little derision as he could, even if Espen wasn't with his ex he still wouldn't hold a spot of affection for him because of the way he'd gone through the girls in his life, "but even if they split, that chapter's closed for us." While the casual relationship had worked well for him, and he still didn't see himself wanting something long-term with anyone, she was always going to be pulled towards Espen and he knew that now. "Hold on," Felix said quickly, quieting and stalling his step just as fast as he listened, his ears picking up the most glorious fiddle. He let go of her to hop onto a bench to better see, and was soon back and taking her hand, leading them towards the musicians with a new life to his rushing steps. Folk music and dance was hardly a specialty of his, and he hadn't a clue if it was of Sylvia's, but what a waste it would be to only listen! "What do you think? Could you humor me?"

“I’m pretty sure it’s just stories, it would go against the statute to let muggles see a real ghost I think. If they’re here I’ve never come across one.” Then again, she hadn’t really been looking for ghosts in the muggle village. When she was among the non-magical community she tried not to think about anything magical at all, it was safer that way. However, some exploring with her friend wasn’t out of her realm. If they did come across a ghost it would have been a fruitful adventure. Perhaps she would suggest it if things got too dull. Which wasn’t likely to happen as Sylvia found herself laughing, again. Felix had that way about him that amused and engaged her mind. He was so easy and affable to her, and they shared a sense of humor which usually kept them entertained. “What a rascal you were.” She teased, thinking that little Felix must have been exasperating for his parents, always replacing terrified nannies. “You would love Hogwarts then, there’s enough ghost to fill your fancy. Every house has a House Ghost, and there are plenty of others around for chats and directions if you need them.” Even the Grey Lady wasn’t so bad if you found something she liked talking about. At Felix’s question she gave him a sly smile. “My mum says the first time she saw me use magic, I wanted to dance like the ballerina on my music box, so I did. I didn’t have nannies though, so there was no-one to scare off with my amazing moves.”
Dance had always taken up a huge section of her heart, even from a very young age. She had dedicated countless hours to it and it brought her great joy. Sylvia thought that she could have it all: dancing, her family, her friends, a boyfriend...but she couldn’t. Something had to give, and unfortunately, that had been Tommy. Hearing Felix talk about his own love woes brought up the unhappy feelings of her own and she found her brows furrowing together as she listened. The tone of his voice made her heart hurt a little for him and she instantly disliked this Espen and Letty even though she had never met them. Lord, relationships, they could be the worst. Especially with a love triangle like her friend had gotten himself caught in, those were god awful. “Good. Be well shot of her, you deserve better. And what kind of name is Espen anyway.” Sylvia stuck up her nose and pulled in tight to let Felix know that she was on his side and there for comfort or a sounding board, if he needed it. They were in the square proper now and her partner came to an unexpected halt, surprising her. She looked back at him with a questioning tilt to her head. Sylvie heard what must have caught his attention at the exact moment he leaped onto a nearby bench. She gasped and laughed at the same time but didn’t have time for anything else as he was before her again, taking her hand. Nearly running to keep up with him she let out a happy explanative bouncing to a stop next to him as they arrived by the musicians. Of course, Felix would have heard them. When he turned to her she gave him a welcoming smile and a small curtsy. “How could we not?” Sylvia was over the moon at the way the day with her long distanced friend was shaping up. Dancing in the square, how lively!

"I imagine that's someone's job, it has to be," he said, grinning at the laughter of his companion. "Keeping the ghosts in line, and fixing moldu memories when they can't." He had to chuckle at the thought, for the ghosts he'd come across at school or in exploring his home city generally weren't shy about making themselves known. Felix could all too easily imagine an official trying and failing to reason with an unruly spirit, and tucked the thought away as something to ask his friends from wizarding families about. The Ministère des Affaires Magiques de la France was still quite the mystery to him, only really known in name. While his first career would be as a dancer, he couldn't hope to do it forever, and had had difficulty thinking of what would be next. Wrangling ghosts would keep him engaged and full of stories, if nothing else. "Is that so? What's your House's ghost like?" Felix asked, brows raised as he put this new information together with what he'd before learned from her about Hogwarts. Students separated into Houses based on personality, wasn't that it? It seemed an unnecessary division to him, but as he'd known no other way than what he experienced at Beauxbatons... No, still strange. A joyful laugh bellowed out of him as Sylvia spoke of her younger self, because of course her first tests of magic would involve music and dance. It was beautifully fitting, and truly a sign that her pursuit of dance was fated. She worked hard, to be sure, but there was a unique magic to what she did. "Absolutely perfect, mon petit oiseau. I'm sure you still surprised your mother, eh? Did they get you your dancing shoes the very next day?"Felix slipped into a wicked sort of grin at his friend's assessment of his last year's romantic situation, long having agreed that the boy's name was silly, but had to wonder what was behind the furrow brow she sported in listening. He didn't want her to get unduly upset or worried by his news, even if it was affirming in a way - this was a day for fun between them, so perhaps he should have eased into the update, presented it differently... It's out now, nothing to be done about it. "Exactement! And he's - ah - stupid as his feet,* on top of that. Merci, Sylvia, you're so kind to me. I wish her no ill, truly, and we did have good times together. Some things are just not meant to be, no?"The young man could and did maintain a severe focus when the need called for it, although doing so did wring him of much energy, but the simple act of learning this new city begged him to be distracted. All the more to notice! He was glad again for Sylvia's laugh and the readiness of her steps as they found the violinists, mind tuning into the rhythm of the music. A quick wink and a deep bow was given in response to her curtsy, and with a mischievous glint in his eye, he decided that it didn't really matter if he knew the dancing style of this region or not. Most of the gathered people were simply clapping along anyway, feet tapping and hoots hollered, and if any did choose to join them he could learn from their example. Until then... time to improvise.

“Moldu.” she repeated with a chuckle, liking the way the French word for non-magic folk sounded. Talking about ghosts and Hogwarts made Sylvia want Felix to experience it for himself. She wanted to show him all the amazing wonder her school had to offer, to introduce him to all the ghosts and teach him how to avoid Peeves, feed the giant squid, the view from the Astronomy Tower at night. In equal measure, she wanted to visit Beauxbâtons. The beauty of France was something she wanted to bask in. And maybe sit in for a dance class or two. Wouldn’t that be a dream! “ Ravenclaw house has the pleasure of having the Gray Lady as our ghost.” she said in answer to his question . “And she is exactly as she sounds, very Gray. She’s weepy and shy but wicked smart, as she should. I think you would prefer Nearly Headless Nick. That’s Gryffindors House ghost. He’s much more chatty and entertaining.”
Conversation flowed easily between them and Sylvie found herself chuckling again. Looking up into her friend’s darker gaze. “Well…sort of.” she admitted with an outright laugh. “They made me show off for all of her friends and the family, of course. I’ve been dancing ever since.” Her mother had always said she was destined for the artform but there weren’t nearly as many opportunities to dance at Hogwarts as she hoped. That’s why getting to see Felix was so lovely, he was a key member of her favorite part of life: dancing. Her mirth fell away a little as talked turned to each of their love lives, which were both, honestly nothing to write home about. “No, some things are not meant to be.” she said, thinking of Tommy. But she didn’t want to dwell on that too long, so she purposely perked back up. “Well, I can wish her ill for treating you badly. And the other, Eaton or whoever, stupid as his feet fool.” She gave a true laugh at the insult. “What does that even mean?”
Sylvia was full of laughter after that, as they came across the musicians and Felix took her hand. This is what they were best at, what they were made for and she was all to happy to indulge in a dance. She did love a programmed number but being able to simply feel the music and move accordingly was a freeing feeling. Especially when she was able to connect with a partner as she and Felix did. The support of the crowd lifted and drove her, making her feet work harder, her body push further. She spun and sashayed her hips, laughing as Felix pulled her in, moving his body with hers. Sylvia Davis had never been accused of seeking attention but in this moment she was glorying in it. “Wooo!”

"Very gray indeed. But chatty and entertaining? Sounds like my kind of ghost," Felix laughed, glad to hear there was at least one ghost at Hogwarts who retained a sense of humor. The man's death, he presumed, sounded...arduous, and that was the only bit about ghosts that Felix wasn't so much of a fan of, the hearing of how they passed. That they could tell stories of times gone by? That they were arguably the ones to beat at sneaking through their haunts? That their tireless existence led to fascinating late-night conversations? All well and good. But the morose, morbid tales? Those could wait until he'd gone on his merry way. He intended for his life to be long, and full of living. "I feel that all too well," he grinned. "Parents of talented children can't be expected to resist applause any more than we can, hmm?" While it had taken his parents some time to come around to his need - not want - to devote his life to dance, after they saw what he could do after some training? It had taken his arguments, again, to keep him at Beauxbatons instead of shipped off to a school devoted to dance. That Beauxbatons offered the tutelage he needed not only in the physical arts, but magic and worldly things? If only Sylvia's parents had sent her to school with us.Felix looked to her fondly, his companion sticking up for him through the insults of his last year. He had found love in his passion, and perhaps that love was the one meant to last for him. Romance was all well and good, but if he could resist falling, trapping himself in the same patterns he had had with his ex - he would be far happier. It could have just been the wrong person, not the wrong idea. "Maybe it is better through our tongue," he chortled, bête comme ses pieds. The feet, farthest from the head, farthest from intelligence...Trust me, it's devastating. You'll have to bring it to Hogwarts. But merci, I appreciate it."They took to the musicians at a run, and Felix took a moment's pause as they came to. Watching the bows dance over the strings, feeling their rhythm - he would move freely, but not outside of the rhythm - inspired his feet, and they were shortly drawing well deserved attention. He moved lightly, confidently, over the stones, their uneven surface a test of the resistance of his soles. More than the gathering crowd, Felix was inspired by his partner, the way she made the music come alive as she moved, as she laughed. He drew her in, their feet matching beat-for-beat, and - head thrown back - joined her in letting out a wordless cry at her yell...The song ended with a flourish of strings, applause of the onlookers and Felix and the other dancers as he separated from Sylvia just far enough to take a sweeping bow, grin unstoppable. "I think I like it here," he teased, "just as much as they like us. Good show, Davies, good show!"
