Hello dear Reader, and welcome to the first of many shared times here with me at Catchlove's Cooking Corner. Together we will explore recipes and local restaurants, and I'm thrilled to begin. I took my little sister with me to Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour in Diagon Alley early this week during what I can only describe as a dream assignment. Two of the Catchlove girls out for ice cream, having the opportunity to interview the delightful Florean and have our pick of the summertime specials, what could be better? The only downside, truly, was breaking the news to my sister that I didn't only need her along for her opinion on the flavors...but that I hoped the abundance of ice cream could soften some personal news.
As many of my fellow recent graduates are likely experiencing, change upon change upon change follows us as soon as we step off of the platform at King's Cross for the final time. For me, this involved pounding the cobbles in Diagon Alley looking for work until I found my place here - along with another new-to-the-Prophet writer that I am delighted for you all to meet - and when I had? The world opened up even more.
As I explained to my sister - her with a scoop of chocolate chili, which sadly ended up being her least favorite, and me with a scoop of apple crumble, which lands high on my list even though I will forever associate it with how dreary she looked across from me at the news - I was leaving home. I would only be an owl away, a Floo away, but this means that she will have the unique experience of being the only child at home. Poor Florean came back to us as we sat under the lovely shade of our table's umbrella, with cups of strawberry peanut butter and salted caramel blondie in hand, and was kind enough to offer his reassuring presence and a spot of advice at seeing the muddled mess I'd made of our outing. My sister favored the strawberry peanut butter and started to come around - there are advantages to my moving away, however dreadful the separation may feel to the kindest heart I know - and now that this is written, I can begin to make my new space homey enough to soon invite her by. With any luck, a shared visit can line up between her and my new flatmate's little sister, and we can agree that this is one of the better changes that this summer could have brought.
Listed below are my impressions from Utterly Love to Catches For Adventurous Eaters, with quotes from my sister on those she felt strongly about. Overall? I highly recommend a visit to Fortescue's, which you can find on the north side of Diagon Alley, tucked in next to the second-hand bookshop. I have no doubt that you will find more than one flavor to fit your fancy, and while I know many of us will stop by as we are out-and-about, I encourage you to stop and stay when you have the time.
