No details about Reginauld's life were spared in his post-work hours deep in drink. He felt it necessary to educate Rodolphus, and eventually his younger brother Rabastan in the workings of the world, how women should be treated, how their people had been kept from fulfilling their potential, how the appearance of wealth must reflect their full coffers. These lessons were often accompanied by wicked stories of the cruelties his father imposed on those who crossed him or otherwise earned the torture they would endure at the hands of a sadistic man who seemed intent on sharing every gory detail with his young sons. Whether it was to frighten them or toughen them up, it was hard to tell, though stories weren't the only way Reginauld managed to whip his boys into shape. Regardless, the boys knew better than to cross their father, and when it could not be helped, Rodolphus tried his best to take the brunt of the abuse, though not always successful.
Hogwarts was a happy release, as he was free from his father's cruel grip and his mother's ever deepening mental instability. Rodolphus flourished here, making friends more than just social connections. Rodolphus took this lesson and excelled; becoming the prime example of what a Slytherin pureblood should be while in school. While at Hogwarts, Rodolphus was an excellent student, hardly needing to open a book to receive top marks in all his classes. He was naturally intelligent and utterly insightful, although if given the opportunity Rodolphus was more often found fooling around with pretty girls in empty classrooms and broom cupboards than in a lesson. Roddy joined the Quidditch team in his third year and was an accomplished beater; his strength allowed him to easily bat bludgers into the opposing teams as if he were flicking a wad of paper with his finger. Physical strength was just as important to Rodolphus as magical ability, having gone many of his earlier years without a wand and yet still managed to retaliate against his father's rage by beating the shite out of any neighboring children who dared to look at him wrong. In addition to his formal education, Rodolphus trained with a private tutor acquired by his parents in the art of Black Magic and dueling. Rodolphus is a skilled duelist, both in formal affairs as well as actual street duels. He was dueling champion four years in a row at Hogwarts and used said skills to garner favor from a certain dark wizard well before his graduation.
Although willing to put it in just about any girl he fancied even for a fleeting moment, Rodolphus was aware that his parents had arranged for him to marry a younger witch from a respectable family. He first met Bellatrix Black in his second year when she was sorted into Slytherin and the pair became well acquainted as they grew older. Rodolphus found he had no romantic inclinations toward Bellatrix, beyond bedding her, but they got on well enough and he admired her passion for the dark arts and her even darker sense of humor. It was agreed that there was no jealousy between them as they found enjoyment in the company of others, though there were a few arseholes that inevitably would come sniffing around whom Rodolphus deemed not good enough for his future wife and thus he ensured they kept their interest to themselves in a not-so-subtle fashion that often resulted in washing blood from his knuckles.
Following her graduation from Hogwarts a year after his, Rodolphus and Bellatrix were married, though he was no more free from his father's cruel reach. It had been a long time coming when the Lestrange boys, assisted by his partner in crime/wife, began plotting their eventual liberation from Reginauld Lestrange. In the end, Rodolphus and Bellatrix took command of the Lestrange Estate, and assumed the role of keeping up the Lestrange family name. Rodolphus, a controlling man, was conflicted when his younger brother finally found a home of his own. No longer able to keep tabs on the young man and protect him as he had done most of his life, he was also pleased that he and Bella could continue with their lives as they wanted without Rabastan's disapproving eye when either flaunted their bed buddy of the week around the mansion.

Rodolphus is a fiercely loyal man, though he may have a difference of opinion on what constitutes loyalty in a marriage. Despite his adulterous ways, Rodolphus cares for his wife as a great friend, and would incinerate anyone who dared to speak ill of her in his presence. He is definitely the sort of bloke that will strike first and ask questions later, especially when it comes to the people he loves or his beliefs. He has quite an explosive temper but has learned to refrain from compulsive actions in front of anyone import like those of a certain social standing, business prospects, or the Dark Lord. His parents raised him to be a proper pureblooded socialite, despite the physical and mental abuse he and his brother endured at the hands of their father, and to believe that muggles and mudbloods were scum and should be treated as such. With a new Dark Wizard in town propagating such beliefs, it was only a matter of time before Rodolphus fell in line with Lord Voldemort’s ranks.
His wife, Bellatrix, is by far the most alluring of the Black sisters; her psychosis being perhaps the most attractive aspect of her character and while Rodolphus doesn't have any true feelings for her, he saw the benefits in such a pairing and refrained from arguing with the arrangement. Rodolphus does not believe in romantic marriage as such notions could hinder the continuation of the truly pure bloodlines, which would be a severe mistake. Because he had few romantic feelings for his wife, he regularly had affairs with other attractive women, and cared little for how she spent her own private time. He does, however, concern himself with public appearance, and for that reason his dalliances have always remained private, his aim to keep his family's name out of the tabloids by continuing to keep his affairs in the shadows and out of the limelight. To the world, Rodolphus is an upstanding citizen, a loyal husband, and a brilliant businessman. In private, he is a crude, lecherous wizard who would sooner chop off your genitals and sell them back to you for a profit than apologize for a misdeed.
