Back Story:
It was an unremarkable day in September of 1952 when Edith Tonks felt the first contraction come on as she was hoovering the first-floor hallway. Perry was surprisingly frantic at the onset of his wife’s labor, given his experience with emergency medical situations his wife had not expected to be the calm one of the lot as she rang a neighbor to drive them to hospital. After hours of sweat and tears, Edith gave birth to a healthy baby boy, whom the couple named Edward. Some days later they brought their son home and their lives returned to as normal as could be expected with a new baby and two medical professionals. As a nurse, Edith rarely worried over the typical health concerns most other new mums would have fretted over; a slight fever or the first runny nose. She was more concerned with the amount of dirt the child managed to track into the house as he grew older. Likewise, Perry’s response to most of the childhood injuries brought to his attention was to first ask if anyone was bleeding, and next to question teasingly whether Ted, as he soon liked to be called, thought he might need a limb amputated. Ted enjoyed a mostly unremarkable childhood in the suburbs of Liverpool, making friends easily and following his parent’s footsteps in being the more level-headed of his mates. The Tonks family had no reason to suspect anything was amiss when an older woman rang their doorbell one Thursday afternoon and asked to speak with the parents of Edward Tonks. The woman introduced herself as Minerva McGonagall, Deputy Headmistress of a prestigious boarding school in which Ted had been chosen to attend. The news of the admission was nothing compared to the shock of learning that their son was, what the woman had called, a wizard. After some debate about the matter and with gleeful energy, Ted was permitted to attend this prestigious wizarding school known as Hogwarts. The deputy headmistress accompanied him and his parents to Diagon Alley for school shopping, along with a handful of other “muggle” born students, and again as he boarded the train that would take him off to his new life as a wizard. Ted wrote to his parents every week for the first few months of school, but as he found kinship with other wizards and witches at Hogwarts, his letters grew fewer and farther between. Perry reminded his wife that this was a good thing; their son was becoming more comfortable at school and making new friends.
Ted, who had always been a fan of football, was instantly attracted to the wizarding sport Quidditch. He was eager to learn to fly in his first year lessons and thoroughly put out to learn he needed to wait another year to join the Ravenclaw team. When he did finally make the team in his third year (having been passed over in his second year for others whom he wanted to root against but found them too good to stay peeved at for long), he took on the position of Chaser. It was also in his third year that he started helping out the school matron in the hospital wing as something of a volunteer intern. Healing was not so different from the medical practices both of his parents dealt with, and he found himself interested in learning how magical healing could fill in the gaps that muggle medicine left behind. Mostly he just cleaned bandages and changed bedsheets to start, but Madam Pomfrey, the new school matron, allowed him to watch as she worked her literal magic on students who came for her help, and answered most of the questions he posed. It was she who first suggested he look into becoming a Healer after graduation, though that was still many years off at the time.
His dual interest in quidditch and healing came together dramatically in his sixth year when, during a quidditch match against Slytherin, Ted took a bludger to the head and fell from his broom. Dazed and confused, another hospital wing volunteer came to his aide and after making a spectacular arse of himself, the pair eventually started dating. Ted liked Andromeda, but she had her own baggage that was in direct opposition to Ted’s very existence. Their relationship was heavy, and mostly kept a secret except from a select few friends so as to avoid Andromeda’s judgmental family getting involved. The couple bounced between dating and being just friends repeatedly throughout the remainder of his time at school and though Ted believed he loved Andromeda, being kept as a shameful secret for so long was wearing on him. By the time his graduation was upon them, the turmoil had reached the ultimate boiling point. At the end of the summer she would be returning to Hogwarts and he was set to start a year-long Healer training program. There was no longer a point to pretending anything of substance could come from their relationship if he needed to be hidden away from her family and Ted wanted to start his adult life without hiding in the shadows.
He studied, dated, and generally went about his life for the next year and soon he was hired on at St Mungo’s after completing his healer training. He made friends at work beyond the Spell Damage Ward and had started to build lovely life for himself when she came back into his life. The feelings he had felt for Andromeda had not gone away over their year apart, and having her working in the same building might have brought up unhappy memories had it not been for the fact that she seemed to have separated herself from her oppressive family.
With their relationship rekindled, Ted made plans to pop the question but it was Andromeda who surprised him instead. Bringing Dromeda home to meet his parents, they had expected to be introduced to a fiancée but instead the couple shared their news that they were expecting a baby. Perry and Edith were overjoyed to learn that they would be grandparents, even if Edith thought herself too young for the job. Nymphadora was almost two when she played flowergirl at her parents’ modest wedding, with plenty of muggle and magical friends to help celebrate their love. The couple's background, along with their healing skills made them clear candidates when Dumbledore began looking for support in the battle against You-Know-Who's evil forces, and while Ted wanted to do what he could to support his former Headmaster, he had a family to consider. He and Dromeda offered their services where they could, but he could not agree to take up arms full time; they would not risk leaving Dora to be orphaned.

TEMPERAMENT
Ted is your classic “lover not a fighter”. He enjoys making friends and loathes conflict, though of course if the situation requires it, he will definitely stand up for those he cares for. He has an affinity for sports, muggle and magical alike, and as of his time at Hogwarts he had the largest collection of comic books of anyone in Ravenclaw Tower. Whether she enjoys the film or is simply humoring her husband, Ted has dragged Dromeda to see the new movie Star Wars in theatre at least three times (he has spared her from joining him on all of his viewings). Some may call Ted a nerd, but he’s really just passionate.
