If there was one thing that Ender knew in life, it was that he would never measure up to the man Theon would have been.
Born a year after his elder sister, Ender grew up knowing he lived in the shadow of a child who had died, and while he was the heir to the non-existent family fortune, he would never be good enough for his mother and father because he wasn't Theon. When he was young he had longed for his mother and father to love him, but instead, he found acceptance from the nanny, Gwendoline, whom he shared with Euphadora. She was the closest thing he had to a mother that cared for him, and Dora was his first real friend. While he was younger, he had learned at a young age that she needed someone who would look out for her - as their father clearly wouldn't, and did his best to make sure his sister was always protected and happy.
The year she went to Hogwarts was awful, and he hated being stuck at home with two parents who didn't care for him. He wrote her letters, and it was during her time away that he discovered a love for painting. Not only that, but he was quite good at it. Gwendoline encouraged him and bought him supplies whenever he ran low. He painted anything he could think of and was relieved when Dora returned home after her first year because it was someone else who would appreciate his work. He'd painted her a serpent, as she'd been sorted into Slytherin. That summer everything seemed okay again, until it was time for school and he had to spend yet another year away from his sister.
Finally, the time came for him to attend Hogwarts, and he stuck close to his sister on the train. He met her friends and mingled with other purebloods whose names he'd learned over the years through pureblood parties they'd been forced to attend. He was sorted in Slytherin, as all Parkinson's are, and quickly came to enjoy the company of his dormmates. While Dora had flourished at school without him, he was glad to join her, and while she dated around he made sure to put fear into any boy who he felt might harm his sister. It was his job to protect her, always and forever.
In his fourth year, the incident happened. Dora was struck by a stunning hex in the eye, and he'd torn through Hogsmeade and the castle until he had reached her in the hospital wing. He'd demanded to know the name of the girls who had harmed her and had sworn that they would pay for what they had done to her. He made good on his threat and served weeks in detention for the prank he pulled on them. He had intended to harm them, but they'd caught on to his scheme before any real damage had been done.
The years went by, and before he knew it Dora was graduated and he was in his last two years of school. Without her to watch over, he stopped spending so much of his time painting and got to know his classmates more. He knew those in Slytherin and had always been close to them, but he started branching out to those in his year in other houses. While he knew quite well of the pureblood supremacy, he mingled with whoever, with no intent on making any tight connections with those who were half-blood or muggleborn.
After graduation, his father secured him a job at the Ministry, with the request that Ender used his new connections to find a way into the Dark Lord's favor. While he has no interest in working for Voldemort, he does sympathize with their cause. He knows his former classmates were invited to join the ranks, and that all he would have to do is ask if he wanted a foot in the door. Instead, he bides his time with excuses that work keeps him too busy.
