Back Story:
Katya was born nearly a month before she was expected, and her birth set a precedent that she wasn't one to just go along with the status quo. If it was expected of her, she often did the opposite. As a young child she was often called naughty and a trouble maker, though she never intended to be a bother. She just didn't like following the rules, and questioned everything and everyone – especially her teachers. As she grew older, she found that not only was it a thrill to defy her parents and society in general to some degree, but she also discovered a love for things she would have never otherwise been exposed to. Her parents were both rather reserved and didn’t approve of Katya speaking her mind as freely as she did. Between her mouth and her behavior, Katya was in trouble a lot. Her parents were relieved when she began her education at Durmstrang, because while she was still getting into trouble they at least had a break from having to deal with it directly.
Some of her childhood friends started Durmstrang the same year as she did, and she was pleased to have familiar company in the new environment but she quickly made even more friends and was soon rather popular. She got on equally well with girls and boys, and was known for talking back to the professors when she didn’t agree with them. She received detention several times a year but as she grew older she learned to filter herself a little better. She still spoke her mind and did mostly as she pleased but she was learning the value of a time and a place and by her seventh year at Durmstrang she was as close to a model student as Katya was ever going to get.
Her first year out of school was spent travelling. She had grown accustomed to spending time away from her family and she found their relationship more solid when she wasn’t constantly around them. She talked with her mama when she was away, mainly by owl but sometimes she would go home for a week or two, never staying more than a fortnight if she didn’t want to end up with her parents completely bothered by her very presence. They loved her but she wasn’t what they had expected of their daughter – Katya left the perfect daughter award to her big sister Katerina who was a respectable young lady that would never have dreamed of doing half the exciting things Katya experienced.
After a while, Katya settled down in New York, deciding that the bustle and noise of the American city was the perfect speed for her. She took a job busing tables at any café and diner that would hire her, and eventually fell into a position as a line cook in the kitchens. Katya worked her way up, improving her skills as she jumped from diner to diner, restaurant to restaurant, until eventually one of her employers convinced her to take lessons at a culinary school in Brooklyn. Following her graduation from the culinary program, Katya once again set off to travel the world. She took part-time jobs in restaurants in whatever city she ended up in, working just long enough to make a pocket full of gold before hopping on a train for the next destination.
When she found herself in London, Katya was in love. Not with a witch or a wizard but with the city itself. Much like New York, the city was loud and always on the go – perfect for Katya, but it was vastly different to America and she enjoyed the familiar unfamiliarity of it. Recently she decided to settle down in London, after being offered a job as the head chef at a restaurant in Diagon Alley. However, after leaving New York she discovered that the ongoing tensions between the US and her home country of Soviet Union have caused some challenges obtaining her work visa in the UK, delaying the start of her new position. Thankfully, Katya saved enough money during her worldly adventures to cover her expenses while she wages war on bureaucracy at the Ministry of Magic.
She has lived in the city for the last few months, making new friends and taking plenty of time to explore the UK and anything nature has to offer. She and her old friends go on an annual camping trip in Argentina, and she still meets up with the friends she made cliff diving in Croatia. She’s very happy with her life and currently has no plans to leave London, though if the mood strikes she’s not above selling off her belongings and hitting the open road yet again.

TEMPERAMENT
Katya is a wild child. She is loud and opinionated and not afraid to speak her mind and tell you exactly what she is thinking. Because of this, she can be very polarizing. Some people absolutely adore Katya’s carefree spirit and her enthusiasm for life, and her ability to switch from laughter and smiles to serious b*tch should she feel the need to put you in your place. It’s that last bit that turns some people off to Katya, but she doesn’t really every pay those sorts of people much mind. She is perfectly comfortable in who she is, and she never seeks validation from anyone but herself.
Former loves have known a softer side of Katya than she typically lets on. She can open up and be vulnerable with someone she truly trusts, but that instinct to be obnoxious and direct is always there and can switch on in an instant whenever the mood strikes. She’s had a few girlfriends and boyfriends over the years, though nothing serious since she left New York. She’s never stayed in one place long enough to get to the point where she wanted to move in with someone, and certainly marriage, kids, and living in the suburbs has never ever crossed her mind. Perhaps one day in the distant future she might begin to think about that sort of thing but for the time being it would be a burden on her lifestyle she doesn’t want to add.
MAGIC
Wand: larch, dragon scale, 10 3/4 inches
Boggart: A box or cage surrounding her, closing in.
