Back Story: Roderick Bones was the second, and middle child, in a very loving and well known family. With a father who influential in the Ministry, Roderick was set on a good path from a young age. His parents raised him to be ambitious and smart, as well as kind and gentle. After his younger sister was born, this became even more apparent. A baby was a thing to be handled carefully and looked after, not to be rough housed with like he did with his older brother.
Still, Roderick dotted on his younger sister, and the three siblings grew up playing together and enjoying a simple life, when they could. Their father was often mentioned in the papers, and on occasion the rest of the family was mentioned. Roderick enjoyed the spotlight, although the children were never allowed to bask in it for too long. While he never took interest in what his father did - he knew that Greg Bones was recognized for things. Something Roderick aimed to be.
While he had to wait a year to start school due to his late birthday, he was ecstatic when his Hogwarts letter arrived. He felt bad leaving his sister by herself, but once he got there and was sorted into Hogwarts he couldn't really feel too bad. Learning about magic and practicing it was wonderful, and the Hufflepuff house was welcoming and friendly. A year later, his sister joined them. (A surprise to them really - she was much smarter than both him and Edgar).
Roderick knew he from a young age that he wanted to go into a career where he could be appreciated, and yet still recognized. As he grew older, his desire to care for others grew stronger (although the pride never fully diminished), and in fifth year he decided that he wanted to pursue a career as a healer. While he did well on his N.E.W.T.'s, he received Outstanding in Herbology and Potions.

Roderick is the definition of a nice person. Always looking out for others, he was big on making sure the little guy wasn't getting pushed around or picked on. He never liked to duel or pick fights, but he did enjoy watching over the younger Hufflepuffs during school to make sure they were doing alright. He also often volunteered in the Hospital Wing, where he fell in love with the idea of becoming a Healer.
He was raised to be a gentlemen, and always tries to act as such. Bringing a lady flowers, opening the door for her. He's the first to offer his coat or an umbrella, preferring to let himself be cold or wet than someone else. He's very protective, especially over his younger sister (even if she can handle her own).
But he is prideful, and may tend to exaggerate his importance at the hospital from time to time to stroke his ego. When called out, he'll fess up though. He'd rather diffuse a situation than have a confrontation.
