Charlotte busied herself with finishing the rest of dinner preparations, hoping that she truly was being as reasonable as she felt she was. She was trying to stay calm, even in the face of two big pieces of news: one, that Daisy was pregnant; two, that Daisy was questioning if Peter was the informant. The first was something that Char had anticipated happening, although she hadn't thought it would happen so soon, and most definitely not while the world was in such turmoil. But Daisy would be a wonderful mother; the child would be adored and taken care of, and while the circumstances weren't ideal, they were workable. Charlotte was far more concerned about the second bit of information. For just that her oldest friend could think that the mole could be Peter was horribly telling of the situation, at least from Charlotte's perspective. Because she could see why Order members could question Remus' loyalties; she could see their side, but she had fact enough to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Remus was not a double agent. But if Daisy felt uncertain enough to speak thusly...I'm sorry, Daisy, but you have to investigate.
She brought dinner over to the small dining table after setting food out for the cat, hoping that her friend wouldn't be too worried or upset with her to eat, and returned the other's stiff smile upon setting everything down and taking her chair. The brief silence between them had been strained, and while Char was not eager for it to be broken, she was not altogether surprised at Daisy's fair rebuttal. Fair, except that the difference is that it isn't Remus and we don't suspect him, Charlotte thought with a slight and involuntary rise of color to her cheeks, fighting back a sharp retort that Daisy did not deserve. "Nothing about this is right, I know," she agreed, focusing her eyes on her food as she chose her words carefully. "It's difficult to be objective and to work with hypotheticals, but I'd hope that if I had the doubts that you do, that I could speak to Remus frankly about them. And if his answers were not satisfactory enough to ease my mind, that he would agree to take the potion to prove that he has nothing to hide. He wouldn't be happy about it, but I hope he'd understand why I felt it was a sensible course of action, and that he would forgive me for it."
Should you keep this from him, if she asks? A new worry chilled the young woman at the thought, and she dearly hoped that Daisy would not swear her to silence. For while Peter was Remus' closest friend and had been since boyhood, and it would pain him to hear Daisy's suspicion, if they were lucky he would have insights and evidence to help build a case against the notion...Charlotte gave a nod as her guest continued, heart heavy at the lot of it. To hear that Daisy still trusted the man with her life, that she had to...Even if Peter was the informant, was he in so deep that he would no longer protect his wife, if it came to it? Even if he had already turned on the Order? On Albus Dumbledore himself? Charlotte wanted to believe that Peter would not sacrifice Daisy, whatever may come, but their lives had changed so much that they were nearly indistinguishable from that of a wretched spy thriller, and she no longer knew what to expect from hardly anyone anymore. "I understand," she returned simply, knowing that her accompaniment was just as unlikely as the potion, and finally rasied her worried eyes to meet her friend's. I just don't want you getting hurt. "But, Daisy - be careful about it, please. If he's been hiding something from you, he must have compelling reasons for it, and it may not come out easily."
