Back Story:
Some of Lily's earliest memories are of Tuney and she playing in the garden behind their house. Then going to the park with their parents, numbers and letters, and then...magic. The first time she remembered using it, she and Tuney had just wanted one more cookie. Tuney was in hysterics, her parents confused and frightened at their eldest's words of floating cookies and crazy sisters. Eventually, her parents learned, as did she, about her magic and that it wasn't an evil thing. They loved her anyway, gave her rules for her special powers, and Lily was elated to not be the freak of the family after all. Even though Petunia always insisted she was.
She met Severus before ever going to Hogwarts, or knowing even what Hogwarts was. Lily remembered being overjoyed that there was someone like her, someone who could make flowers bloom, or stop themselves from falling. He taught her everything about the wizarding world, and she loved him for it. She loved him for all that he was and went through under the hand of his father. They were the best of best friends. Her parents even accepted him, glad their daughter had someone to share her gift with, even if he was very strange to them. They were all thrilled when she received her letter to Hogwarts, and the Professor came to see them...all except Petunia of course.
Lily was over the moon about it anyway, and was beside herself the day they walked through the wall at King's Cross. Tuney was distant (probably to do with the letter she wrote the school, the fight that ensued when she and Severus had read it, oh, and that she thought Lily was a freak), but Lily knew that her sister still loved her, even with all that. And even if it was mean, Severus had been right, Tuney was jealous just wanted to be like them. Soon her family was lost behind her in the muggle world and she and her best friend were off to their magical school together. With others too, much to her chagrin. Bullies already, and barely out of training pants, she remembered thinking of the boys they were unlucky enough to share a compartment with.
At Hogwarts...things...were different. For the most part, she thrived. Lily became obsessed with learning about the hidden world she belonged to. Severus had not told her everything after all. And he had lied about one thing: being muggle-born did matter. She learned that quickly. He had also failed to mention just how intense the rivalry between Gryffindor and Slytherin was, especially for people like her. It saddened her that she and Severus were in opposing houses, but it angered her as well. Why were his classmates so hateful to she and Mary and all the others? Why did Severus have to be with them? So, it became her mission to learn everything she could about everything, especially how to protect herself. By third year, dueling was her passion and she was near top of the class in Charms and Potions- with Severus' help in Potions, of course. Even so, their relationship had become strained, helped not by Potter and his gang.
Socially, she grew into a loving sort, building meaningful relationships with many. She became more playful the more comfortable she became in this strange new world, and eventually it was not strange or new anymore. Before long, it had been years, and Hogwarts was her home. By fifth year, she and Severus had found some strange common ground, she disliked James Potter more than ever, and Petunia had stopped antagonizing her -mostly she just ignored her all together, when she was around that was. Life seemed perfectly disjointed...until Severus broke her heart. Until he called her that word. Mudblood.
“This will liven you up, Padfoot,” said James quietly. “Look who it is…”
“Excellent,” he said softly. “Snivellus.”
Harry turned to see what Sirius was looking at.
Snape was on his feet again, and was stowing the O.W.L. paper in his bag. As he emerged from the shadows of the bushes and set off across the grass, Sirius and James stood up. Lupin and Wormtail remained sitting: Lupin was still staring down at his book, though his eyes were not moving and a faint frown line had appeared between his eyebrows. Wormtail was looking from Sirius and James to Snape with a look of avid anticipation on his face.
“All right, Snivellus?” said James loudly.
Snape reacted so fast it was as though he had been expecting an attack. Dropping his bag, he plunged his hand inside his robes, and his wand was halfway into the air when James shouted “Expelliarmus!”
Snape’s wand flew twelve feet into the air and fell with a little thud in the grass behind him. Sirius let out a bark of laughter. “Impedimenta!” he said, pointing his wand at Snape, who was knocked off his feet, halfway through a dive toward his own fallen wand.
Students all around had turned to watch. Some of them had gotten to their feet and were edging nearer to watch. Some looked apprehensive, others entertained.
Snape lay panting on the ground. James and Sirius advanced on him, wands up, James glancing over his shoulder at the girls at the water’s edge as he went. Wormtail was on his feet now, watching hungrily, edging around Lupin to get a clearer view.
“How’d the exam go Snivelly?” said James.
“I was watching him, his nose was touching the parchment,” said Sirius viciously. “There’ll be great grease marks all over it, they won’t be able to read a word.”
“Leave him ALONE!”
James and Sirius looked around. James’s free hand jumped to his hair again.
It was one of the girls from the lake edge. She had thick dark red hair that fell to her shoulders and startlingly green almond-shaped eyes — Harry’s eyes.
Harry’s mother…
“LEAVE HIM ALONE!” Lily shouted. She had her own wand out now. James and Sirius eyed it warily.
“Ah, Evans, don’t make me hex you,” said James earnestly.
“Take the curse off him, then!”
James sighed deeply, then turned to Snape and muttered the countercurse.
“There you go,” he said, as Snape struggled to his feet again, “you’re lucky Evans was here, Snivellus–”
“I don’t need help from filthy little Mudbloods like her!”
After that, life changed. She had made a stand, with herself, she would fight. She would not stand by and allow herself, or others like her, to be treated as less. She started with her oldest friend, the knife that cut the deepest. She hurt everyday she didn't forgive him, but she did it, and she moved on. Lily became more outspoken about prejudice and mistreatment, and with her title of Prefect and skilled dueler, she was able to combat her own bullies. She threw herself back into her studies in preparation for seventh year and was delighted when the time came, that she was named Head Girl. She was not so delighted that James Potter was Head Boy along side her, however.
True, he had deflated his head a bit and stopped throwing hexes willy-nilly; but he was still an arrogant toerag. Or so she thought...That year -her last year- she was in for quite the surprise. Her life changed yet again, and it was the best change yet. It turned out, she liked James quite a bit. She learned that he happened to be an incredibly thoughtful person, not a bad leader either, also not too bad to look at. And before long, they were friends and then...they were dating...

TEMPERAMENT
Lily likes to keep an open and accepting mind and tries very hard to remain level-headed in all things. She does have a bit of a temper and that can sometimes get away from her. For the most part, she is trusting and loving, but she won't let herself be bullied or mistreated. She would never do that to another person,so, she won't have it happening to her. She tries to be sad as little as possible, but with the current state of things...
