Back Story:
Emmeline Cara Vance, eldest child of Oscar and Katherine, made her arrival into the world shortly after the beginning of 1960.
Her childhood was normal for someone who had one foot in the muggle world and one in the magical. Her mother worked as a midwife, and from a young age Emmeline was accompanying her mother to births. She was four years old the first time she learned where exactly a baby came out of, and even then she decided that the last thing she ever wanted was a child of her own. Her father’s job was much more exciting, an Obliviator for the Ministry of Magic! She wasn’t allowed to go to work with him, but it was always fun to visit the Ministry with him for the wonderful parties they had. There were adventures to Diagon Alley, and adventures into the heart of Dublin.
When she was seven years old, her mother gave birth to her younger brother Jacob. And while Emmeline was always hesitant around kids, she actually grew to like the brat that she called her little brother. They were as thick as thieves, getting into trouble around the house (and outside!) together until she was whisked off away to Hogwarts after her eleventh birthday.
Upon arrival she was sorted in Ravenclaw, the same house as her father had been in. She was absolutely thrilled, and has never hesitated to show her house pride. Her first two years were uneventful as most are, her mind wrapped up in school work and magic. The summers were spent showing off for her younger brother, carefully casting magic only when her father was home. In her third year she decided to try out for Quidditch, and was quite pleased to join the Ravenclaw team as a Chaser for the next few years of her schooling.
It was years before there was any concern about Jacob’s lack of magical ability. Emmeline was just positive that after his eleventh birthday he would get a letter from the school, but the letter never came. It broke her heart, but at the same time confirmed her decision she had made in her seventh year of school to join the Order. Magic didn’t make a person special, and Em is determined to prove that.
