First born child of Louie and Anna Peasegood, Grace felt that she was always held to a different standard - and she was never really sure if it was because she’s the oldest, or the only girl. Either way, Grace never got away with the sort of things her brothers did, especially Arnie. Wes, the unfortunate middle child, would often find himself in trouble for things Arnie or Grace had done, as who was Grace to lie to her parents about why the vase their grandmother had given their mother was broken? Only two years separate her and Wes, and she doesn’t remember her world without him. Her closest friend - until Arnie made an appearance. Five at the time, she felt very responsible for her youngest brother, and so a soft spot for him still remains years later.
They grew up in Chelsea, and Grace loved exploring their neighborhood and getting to know the muggles. She never looked down on them, even though she’d discovered her own magical abilities from a young age. While Grace loved her mum dearly, she was often the one to impose the tough love, and Grace became attached to her father quickly. She thinks so highly of muggles, and hates hearing about anything bad happening to them because of the world around them they know nothing about.
The first off to Hogwarts, Grace was sorted into Hufflepuff, and she never doubted for a second that it was where she belonged. Her favorite thing was making others smile, and taking care of them when they were hurt. Even though she didn’t feel as close to her mother, she knew from a young age that she wanted to pursue a job in Healing. She became fast friends with a boy in her classes who had similar dreams, and Roderick Bones was her first real friend at Hogwarts. He introduced her to his older brother (who for a while, she had a crush on), and his brother’s friends. From there her social circle only grew, and when Wesley joined her not only at Hogwarts but in Hufflepuff a year later, she had a whole Hogwarts family ready to welcome him.
After the first few years, she found herself getting more and more into the subjects she’d at first deemed “gross” to have to do, and found that she was becoming more of a tomboy instead of the girly girl she had been since birth. She dedicated herself to her school work, determined that she’d get the O.W.L.’s and N.E.W.T.’s to become a healer. She volunteered with Roderick in the hospital wing, she joined the dueling club, she became a fan of Quidditch and cheered her house on from the stands. She was in her fifth year when Arnie joined her and Wes at school, and while she was proud of him for being sorted into Ravenclaw, she was a bit disappointed he wasn’t in Hufflepuff with them. But she’d been appointed Prefect, so she looked out for him the best she could with her new school duties. Thankfully, he’d found a fast friend in a classmate named Benji Fenwick, and she was glad he was finding a home for himself in the halls of the castle.
While she loved the job of being a prefect, she was more interested in spending time in the greenhouses tending to the plants, or in the hospital wing helping out, and quite often on the grounds looking for bugs for her collection. Her dorm mates hated her for it, but she kept them alive to study - it wasn’t like they were dead or loose in the room! Still, they were all grateful when Professor Sprout allowed Grace to take over a small area of her office for her collection. When she graduated a few years later, her small collection came home with her to Chelsea, back to the house she grew up in.
She was straight into her year long healer training, and she was hardly home. No one really loved her bugs at home either, but she promised them it would only be a year and she’d have enough saved to get her own flat in Chelsea. She did, and her bug collection actually got to come to work with her when she was assigned to the third floor, thanks to her long time study of the magical insects. It did make life at her flat a little lonely, with just her. She lived around muggles, and not in a place that allowed a secret of an owl to be kept. The Thatcher sister’s were smart, and they’d certainly notice if she had one.
Although she dated over the years, there was never a relationship that she felt to be the one. She saw how much her mum and dad loved each other, and that was what she wanted. She wanted someone that truly understood her passions and loves for the things most of the world considered creepy and crawly. And her love for plants, because her flat had so many plants in it that it is commonly referred to by her friends as “the jungle”. For a year at school, she had dated Bilius Weasley on and off, but after that year they decided they were much better as friends.
